American Express Wednesday launched its first contactless prepaid card in Singapore through a partnership with local public transit card operator EZ-Link.
The new card, called the EZ-Link Imagine American Express prepaid card (Imagine card), was available for application immediately and will be distributed through Transit Link offices starting from Nov. 1.
From ZDNet:
At the launch of the EZ-Link Imagine American Express prepaid card (Imagine card) here Wednesday, Kula Kulendran, executive vice president and head of global network services for Japan, Asia-Pacific and Australia at American Express International, said it decided on Singapore because of the government's push in contactless payment technology. Its strong ties with the locally-based EZ-Link also played a part, he added.
Singapore's government has been actively pushing for contactless payments. It has facilitated the development of an interoperable NFC payment platform, which went live in August.
