Target Sells Virtual Cards In-Store, Introduces New Card Designs
November 6, 2012
Prepaid
Target Brands Inc. will sell virtual cards in-store by having QR code on its displays to enable customers send digital cards. It also has introduced new physical cards that include features such as lights, sound, and motion.
A gift card with a snowman plays the tune "Joy to the World." Another features a bear wearing a light-up Christmas sweater. And there's a reindeer-shaped gift card that comes with a magnet stylus to help users navigate the antler maze.
Anecdotal evidence indicates that having holiday designs on gift cards helps boost sales. Perhaps more significant, though, is Target’s plan to sell virtual and mobile cards in stores. The results will provide some information about the level of acceptance for digital cards by consumers.
