Citi has released a Facebook payments app as a response to mobile network operators who have requested ways that they can interact with their customers using social networking platforms. The first iteration of this app will allow mobile network operators to accept “top-up” payments from their customers via Facebook. The app also allows clients to provide top-ups on prepaid phone plans for friends and family.
This Facebook app is a cost effective way for mobile operators to drive revenue, as its white labeled allows the operators to take advantage of the app without having to invest directly in the research, development, or maintenance for the app.
Citi has committed to using the same security standards for this application that they do for all other transactions and information transfers that they handle, including credit card, social security, and personal identification information.
