Just in time for the onslaught of early adopters coming into Austin for the annual SXSW mash up, PayPal gets together with TabbedOut, a bar tab mobile payment application. TabbedOut will offer PayPal as a payment option which leverages its CNP alternative value proposition of security, but at the end of the day, once you’ve spent some time at the bar is that really top of mind? One would think that convenience might trump security in that setting, but the more PayPal shows up as a payment option in any scenario the more it solidifies its role in the market as a competitor to card network brands.
The real benefit being touted, of course, is security. The implementation of PayPal removes the need to take out your credit card amidst strangers or servers.
