The Coral Springs, Fla., Police Department is hosting a prescription drug collection where they will give gift cards for unused medicines that are turned in at City Hall. The Broward County Sherriff’s office is hosting similar events in August and September.

The drop-off location will be set up as a drive-through. Participants who turn in prescription medication will receive one $5 Wal-Mart gift card per vehicle.

The exchange echoes those held in many other cities where cops have exchanged gift cards for guns as a way of getting them off the streets.
