Intuit Goes After Square with iPad App

Intuit’s been in production with mobile payment services for its merchant customers for a couple of years. And now Square’s come along, put a pretty face on card acceptance and a set a very low bar for merchant onboarding. Intuit and every other mobile payments player has been in reaction mode since.

Intuit’s changed its pricing and is offering a free card reader like Square. And with this announcement, Intuit has released an iPad version of its mobile app that looks good on the iPad’s large screen and adds merchandising functions including the ability to add product photos to the interface.

This morning, the company announced that the iPad app is now available.

The GoPayment apps bring a new layout that takes advantage of iPad’s large, high-resolution display and multi-touch interface. It also includes new features such as the ability to add product photos.

The competitive battle with Square will continue to heat up. Intuit’s had a lot of experience in merchant processing. It will be interesting to see how Intuit fares in its effort to bring in net new clients as opposed to adding the mobile payment channel for its existing merchant accounts. Square’s buzz continues to a very annoying sound in the ears of Intuit, VeriFone, and others.
