Indicating both the increasing significance and competitive challenges within the independent ATM market, a new trade group has been formed to better organize on behalf of independent ATM operators. Even though the new organization doesn’t appear to include Cardtronics – the largest independent ATM operator in the U.S. – community banks and credit unions should be keep an eye on this new group’s progress. Remote ATM capabilities are a critical component of many small financial institution’s service strategies.

“The National ATM Council is a merger of the National Association of ATM ISOs and Operators and the Alliance of Specialized Communications Providers.

The new association claims that it will represent the majority of independent (non-financial institution) ATM deployers in the U.S and that they deploy roughly half the nation’s ATMs.”
