Restaurant chain P.F. Chang’s has released a list of restaurants that were compromised in a security breach late last year and earlier this year, the Associated Press reported.
P.F. Chang’s confirmed in June that data from credit and debit cards used at its restaurants was stolen, but didn’t specify the locations at that time. On Monday the company provided a list of locations. These include P.F. Chang’s restaurants in Baltimore; St. Louis; Pittsburgh; Austin, Texas; and Charlotte, North Carolina.
People can check this site and see when and where P.F. Chnag’s was hacked. The company reverted to manually processing credit and debit card transactions as a way to keep their customers’ cards secure. While this kind of list has value for the cardholders who may have been comprised, it is also valuable to the payments industry, because it potentially will help them recognize cards that need increased monitoring or even reissuing before fraud occurs. Sharing data on fraud and other financial crimes is important to the industry as a whole because it will help others defend against it. No one likes to admit that their systems were compromised, but doing so can make life harder for the criminals and easier for everyone in the industry going forward.
