PayPal to Launch Mobile Payment Acceptance System?

PayPal is expected to announce Thursday it will launch a mobile-payment acceptance system and dongle similar to those provided by Square, Intuit and VeriFone. PayPal has not confirned or denied these rumors.

“While we cannot comment on rumors and speculation, what we can tell you is that at the PayPal event on Thursday we will unveil what we believe will be the future of commerce for small businesses,” PayPal spokesperson Anuj Nayar said.

This follows the recent agreement with Home Depot to enable customers to use either a PayPal card or a combination of mobile phone number and PIN code to pay for their purchases. PayPal intends to add 20 more retailers to this program by year’s end.
