The members of Congress who sponsored the bills to delay the implementation of the Durbin Amendment are on the road with their arguments and this interview with Sen. Corker is an example of one of them. How well this represents what might be going on behind the scenes is difficult to say. The House and Senate versions of the “delay Durbin” bill would have to be reconciled and passed in less than 30 days now.
This will be an all out assault on the small credit unions and community banks against the big boxes in our country like Wal-Mart and that’s the way the battle lines are shaping up.
I don’t want to be overly optimistic on the chances, but I certainly believe there are numbers of people who voted for this and have now seen the outcome and realized what they voted for is highly problematic and they would like to slow it down. If nothing changes, the Durbin Amendment will still go into effect.
