It appears that Singapore’s mobile industry has benefited from the government and will be building a S$40 million interoperable NFC infrastructure for mobile payments. Earlier this month, StarHub became the first Singapore MNO to launch an NFC mobile wallet utilizing the infrastructure. And now M1 and SingTel have followed sui

SingTel says that the mobile payments service that it has developed with EZ-Link will allow customers who buy an NFC SIM to make cashless payments by tapping supported handsets at terminals at over 20,000 points island-wide that accept EZ-Link, such as taxis, supermarkets and fast food chains.

EX-Link is Singapore’s contactless public transit card services and its acceptance has gone beyond transportation services.

Meanwhile, another MNO M1 has also been working with EZ-Link and MasterCard on its wallet.

Singapore is the most mobile payment-ready nation in the world, according the Mobile Payments Readiness Index by MasterCard.
