QSR restaurants aren’t the only ones hopping on the mobile order and mobile pay bandwagon.

According to a recent BusinessTech article Nedbank in mastercard have entered into a new partnership that would allow individuals to order and pay for their food without having to wait for the restaurant server.

The Keystone of this partnership resides on the Qkr! (pronounced quicker) platform which was developed by mastercard labs. The quicker platform enables consumers to order and pay for their food without having to wait for their server. The Qkr! platform also comes with additional benefits such as allowing restaurant-goers to be able to split the restaurant payment bill directly from their phone. This process is enabled by using Masterpasthat enables for a speedier check out without the burden of entering in your financial information at every new merchant location.

The quicker platform is an exciting evolution from the what seems like yesterday invented tableside POS systems. The question though that remains present is what will the merchant adoption process look like for this new POS experience? One of the unique benefits of the platform, however, is that the platform web-based, therefore, allowing it to integrate into other industry verticals such as retail.

By being a web-based platform enables Qkr! to integrate into other industry verticals this potentially can give the quicker platform a boost in Merchants acceptance. Also, using the Qkr! platform might also remove some of the overhead of purchasing POS terminals as the POS system is now software using the capabilities of an individual’s mobile smartphone.

As consumers continue to have more of a reliance on their smartphones all Industries are going to need to look at how they can capitalize on this continually evolving behavior and provide experiences that suit the needs of these new behaviors. It would appear according to Mark Elliott the division president of mastercard Southern Africa that mastercard is trying to do just that.

“Though grab-and-go retail is becoming increasingly popular with those on the move, consumers maintain high customer service expectations. Qkr! with Masterpass provides them with a frictionless retail experience – bringing together self-service, fast, seamless payments, and card safety and security in new ways.”
