Light-based beaming solution for Android smartphones supports over 400 retailer loyalty programs, including CVS ExtraCare, Walgreens Balance Rewards, Kroger PLUS CARD and more

PALO ALTO, Calif. – November 17, 2015 – Mobeam, the unique global leader in mobile barcode beaming technology, today announced it has surpassed 10 million installations of its popular Beep’nGo App for Android and is changing the way retailers and shoppers interact through its mobile processing of more than 7 million unique retail loyalty cards from over 400 retailers.

“Our beaming technology is rapidly improving the ability of retailers and brands to strengthen their relationships with shoppers, based on these 10 million installations and our surpassing 30 million total transactions processed,” said Mobeam CEO George Garrick. “Of equal impact, however, is the extent to which mobile beaming is transforming retailer loyalty programs, which consumers can now access at the checkout through their Android mobile devices. Mobeam literally provides “out of the box” integration with virtually all loyalty programs through the beaming of the loyalty card. No special contracts or technology integrations are required, we work with all existing POS systems.”

Shoppers are utilizing Mobeam’s Beep’nGo app to process transactions with hundreds of retailer loyalty programs, including those for: CVS ExtraCare, Walgreens Balance Rewards, Kroger PLUS CARD, Nectar, Rite Aid Loyalty, Toys”R”Us Rewards, Best Buy, PetSmart PetPerks, Staples, Safeway, Giant Eagle Advantage Card, Plenti, and others.

Mobeam’s patented light-based beaming technology overcomes historical technical barriers and enables (POS) laser scanners to read barcodes on Android mobile devices. Popular and emerging “mobile payment” apps rely on NFC or other technologies that communicate with credit card payment terminals, but not with scanners. Because Mobeam enables a mobile wallet to interact with the scanner, payment apps can now carry loyalty cards, membership cards, gift cards, tickets, vouchers and coupons, providing them with universal POS access at retailers. Mobeam technology easily integrates with all existing mobile payment apps, thus completing their role as a comprehensive mobile wallet.

Mobeam currently operates with more than 300 million Samsung Android phones, and the company is in talks with other manufacturers to expand the technology to additional smartphone devices.

“Mobeam delivers considerable consumer benefit by eliminating the shopper’s need to carry a pocket full of loyalty cards, gift cards and paper coupons to complete their retail transactions. Retailers and brands benefit from creating a more convenient shopping experience, as well as improved targeting of offers, faster and easier transaction clearing, and enhanced security that reduces opportunities for fraud.”

Mr. Garrick added that, in addition to mobile wallet applications for retail, multiple other industry segments are potential markets for transmitting barcode-based content through beaming, including travel, transportation, manufacturing and health care. Mobeam recently made its mobile beaming technology SDK available to developers with a free initial license, enabling them to explore these opportunities and create their own android-based applications and concepts utilizing barcodes or other applications of beaming.

A collection of self-service APIs and tools, the Mobeam SDK license is offered free to developers for an initial period of 120 days with extensions available on a case-by-case basis. The Mobeam Beaming SDK for Android provides APIs for developers to generate and beam a variety of barcodes including UPC, EAN, Code 128, Codabar, GS1 Databar and others. Developers can download the free SDK and access documentation at Mobeam’s developer portal at https://developer.mobeam.com.

Mobeam was named a Red Herring Top 100 2015 award winner in the mobile industry segment. Additional information is available at www.mobeam.com .
