Square and Caviar Team Up At Washington Nats Ballpark

Baseball park food has become more than hot dogs, peanuts, and Cracker Jack. The menu has become quite varied and often provided by local restaurants. But then there are the concession stand lines to deal with, and you just missed seeing that grand slam homer. Alternatively, when you stay in your seat, it seems you’re always looking for the hawker when you’re ready for a dog and cold frosty. Square and its synergistic unit, Caviar, are trying to solve this problem. At the Washington Nationals ballpark, Square mobile POS devices will speed up in-seat transactions by accepting card payments. Plus, when fans download the Caviar mobile app, they can order and pay for a larger variety of food via their phone, then pick up the items at a nearby concession stand. Sounds like progress, but how about having your food order delivered right to your seat when ordering from the Caviar mobile app?

A Mobile Marketer article has the whole story which is excerpted below.

  • With today’s start to Major League Baseball’s regular season, payment company Square is supporting food orders for attendees of the Washington Nationals’ opening home matchup against the New York Mets. Square partnered with the team and Levy Restaurants to let fans order and pay for food and drinks in advance, and pick up their orders from a nearby concession stand, per an announcement.
  • Fans must download the Caviar food-ordering app to place orders and pay while in their seat. The app will then alert them when their food is ready for pickup at the designated concession stand. Caviar will feature food from its exclusive partners, including a rotating series of pop-up offerings throughout the season.
  • Roving concessions hawkers at Nationals Park will be equipped with Square Terminal, the company’s handheld payment device that lets fans pay from their seat with credit cards or mobile wallets from Apple Pay and Google Pay.
