COVID-19 Infects Investor Payments Data

COVID-19 Infects Investor Payments Data

Walmart has just expanded the reach of its mobile payment app, Walmart Pay to stores in several more states. CNET reports:

On Thursday, the retail giant announced the expansion of its mobile payments service to Michigan, Virginia, the Carolinas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Tennessee.

Like other mobile payment services, Walmart Pay lets you use your smartphone to purchase goods on the fly. The service is accessible through Walmart’s mobile apps for iOS and Android.

Walmart Pay is a proprietary, merchant wallet available to their customers that also has loyalty and other Walmart based services embedded. Rollout throughout the U.S. is anticipated to be completed this year.

The Walmart press release outlines how the payment app will work at the checkout. This uses QR codes that the consumer needs to scan with their phone which could be a little clunky. If however, it’s a good user experience, and it is faster or on-par with the time it takes to use a card at the POS, this could win over shoppers:

Checkout using Walmart Pay happens in three easy steps:

1. Open: Visit any register, open the Walmart app and choose Walmart Pay. Activate the camera.
2. Scan: At any time during checkout, simply scan the code displayed at the register. Walmart Pay is now connected.
3. Done: Associate scans and bags the items… and it’s done. An eReceipt will be sent to the app and can be viewed at any time.
