Owners of LG Electronics’ 2013 smart TVs now may initiate payments using PayPal in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. In May, the feature will be added in LG smart TVs in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Aust

LG executives say they deal with PayPal will enable consumers to make faster, more secure digital payments.

From Broadband TV News:

“PayPal significantly reduces the number of steps the user has to take in order to complete a transaction, saving them time by eliminating the need to enter credit card and address details for each subsequent purchase. Moving forward, it will also make it possible for LG to better integrate digital commerce with first-class home entertainment.”–Richard Choi, senior vice president, LG Electronics smart business center.

PayPal’s deal with LG is in line with the payment company’s efforts to broaden consumers’ ability to pay with PayPal in more settings, as illustrated earlier by PayPal’s efforts to expand beyond its historic use as an online payment option to in-store point-of-sale payments. As the technology in TVs gets more sophisticated with WiFi access for the streaming of digital content, the natural next step is to venture into online purchasing, even within shows or movies. And PayPal wants to be on the ground floor as a payments option as that occurs
