Parago, an incentive program manager that holds several patents associated with rebates (one of which enables “a more consumer friendly method for processing rebates that maintains a breakage rate” has conducted its own research on rebate usage.

Parago indicates that the typical American who filed for a rebate received $150 in rebates last year. A survey conducted by Parago in February found that 47 percent of the country submitted a rebate request in the previous 12 months.

Based on an analysis of active 2010 programs, the market for corporate-funded rebates is estimated at more than $8 billion dollars, issued back to American households last year alone.

Rebate payout is now delivered in as little as two weeks. Also, consumers have more choice than ever, with some rebate programs offering several options in payment methods: a paper check, a prepaid card that can be spent immediately without a trip to the bank or even PayPal payout.

Prepaid cards have become a popular tool for rebate and loyalty programs, especially those that have repeated payout because of the relative ease and cost of distributing rewards.
