Credit Card Rewards 2015: Most Americans Wouldn’t Change Spending Habits If Issuers Stopped Offering Rewards

If their rewards program disappeared tomorrow, most American credit card users wouldn’t change a thing. That’s the news from a recent report commissioned by Bankrate.com.

“The results reflect the fact that consumers use credit cards for a variety of reasons. Some 40 percent of the survey’s respondents said cards are easier and more convenient than paying with cash. Meanwhile, financing emergency expenses was a distant second at 19 percent, and earning rewards ranked third with 14 percent.”

The report indicates that the liquidity and usability of credit cards are currently more valued by consumers than rewards. It will be interesting to see if that changes as consumers continue paying down their debts and start using mobile wallets.
