FIME first to perform Mastercard Contactless Reader Level 2 testing in Japan

Delivers localsupport to accelerate approval of Mastercard Contactless Readers

March22, 2017 – FIME today announces itsJapanese laboratory is the first in the country to be approved to performtesting in line with the Mastercard Contactless Reader specification and EMVCoBook C-2 specification. These documents define the functionality required whenimplementing Mastercard contactless terminal kernels. Japanese contactlesspayment terminal and mobile point of sale (mPOS) manufacturers, as well askernel developers, can now work with FIME in local language and currency toachieve cost and time effective Mastercard testing of their solutions prior tomarket launch.

“EMV®migration in Japan is gaining momentum, driven by increased tourism, majorsporting events and the introduction of regulatory initiatives to reducereliance on cash,” comments Vincent Poty, Vice President, Test &Certification at FIME. “With all of this driving adoption of contactless andmobile payments, it was important for us to bring on-the-ground support toJapanese terminal vendors. We have a long history with Mastercard globally, andhave delivered a range of services in Japan since 2013. Our position as theonly laboratory in Japan reaffirms this partnership and our strong andcontinued commitment to customers.”

TheJapanese laboratory will use FIME’s qualified test tool, EVAL, to perform formalMastercard approval testing. The tool is available to purchase forin-house pre- testing to help identify issues that can lead to delays later inthe official approval process.
