Starbucks Adds Android Mobile Payments in the UK and Canada, PayPal Support in U.S.

Starbucks Coffee Company, which is arguably the leader in mobile payments, has launched Android mobile payments in the United Kingdom and Canada. U.S. Customers who update their application on their phone will also have PayPal support and PIN code proection.

From a Starbucks press release:

Customers who download the official Starbucks(R) app for Android(TM) in Canada and the UK will now be able to access a range of features including Starbucks Card mobile payment, store locator, My Starbucks Rewards(TM) stars, check balance and reload, PIN code protection, widget and balance transfer capabilities. Through the Starbucks(R) app for Android(TM) expansion to the UK and Canada, Starbucks mobile payment will now be accepted at nearly 14,000 Starbucks locations worldwide.

Starbucks continues to lead the way in mobile payments. It has an advantage in that it can control the entire environment, but the rest of the mobile payments world will continue to watch Starbucks for lessons in how to do it right and cautions about what to avoid.
