Casting their vote in favor of innovation that connects mobile devices with payment processing, merchant acquirer WorldPay has entered into a resale agreement with mobile payment solutions vendor CellPoint. While light on technical details, the announcement indicates the partnership will support WorldPay’s merchants in the retail and transportation verticals who wish to support consumers using mobile handsets as payment instruments.

The announcement is the latest in a series of innovations in the mobile space which are now available to WorldPay customers. The company’s portfolio will now include CellPoint Mobile’s mPoint mobile payment solution, the mTicket® transport solution and mRetail® product suite, created to provide the optimum mobile payment service for consumers and passengers.

Gabriel Hopkins, Head of eCommerce Products at WorldPay, comments: “WorldPay is dedicated to empowering our customers in the area of mobile payments by providing cutting-edge, effective solutions. We selected CellPoint Mobile based on its best in class mobile solutions and ability to provide our customers with a fast time to market using proven technology.”

Kristian Gjerding, CEO of CellPoint Mobile, comments: “As a global leader in payment processing, WorldPay has seized the opportunity to spearhead the mobile payment channel. This means retailers and transport providers can offer a simple, secure way of payment through the consumer’s preferred device – the mobile phone, providing value to their customers from the outset.”
