FutureProof Retail and Tiliter Provide New Self-Service Grocery Checkout Solution

Consumers are adopting self-service and autonomous checkout methods that are increasingly being rolled out by grocery markets and C-stores. However, one issue has been that bulk items such as produce that require weighing are not easy for shoppers to manage during self-checkout. So now, mobile scan and pay developer FutureProof Retail, in partnership with Australian tech firm Tiliter, solved that problem.

Using FutureProof Retail’s mobile checkout app, Tiliter provides an integrated scale with product recognition that scans produce and other bulk items. So now you can have your veggies and self-service checkout as well.

The following excerpt from a Progressive Grocer article reports more on the topic:

Amazon might be blazing the path for automatic checkouts in the food retail space, but other grocers are also making their own advances. New York City’s family-owned Westside Market provides the latest example of that.

Tiliter, which sells product recognition technology, and FutureProof Retail (FPR), a provider of line-free mobile checkout solutions, have partnered to deploy what they call the first self-service scale with product recognition integrated with scan and go in the United States.

The technology enables customers to use their smartphones to scan and bag items while they’re shopping. They can then pay by phone and skip the lines at checkout. The first integration has been deployed in New York City’s Westside Market. More U.S. supermarkets will follow this year, the New York-based vendors said.
