American Express has teamed up with Groupon HK to jointly promote their products.

Beginning August 18, American Express Cardmembers can redeem Groupon cash vouchers at a savings of 60%. Customers who use their American Express card when transacting on the Groupon Hong Kong website are also eligible to win one million reward points.
“We are thrilled to make our first-ever collaboration in the online group-buying space with a global brand like Groupon, and have them as our Membership Rewards partner in Hong Kong,” said Mr. Y C Koh, Chief Executive Officer, Greater China & Southeast Asia, American Express. “This will enable us to bring additional value to our Cardmembers, broadening their choices and enhancing their experience with American Express. I am very excited about this collaboration and it is indeed a win for American Express, Groupon and our Cardmembers.”

Hong Kong is an active cards and rewards market. And it has long been serving as a stepping stone for companies to enter the mainland China market. Both Amex and Groupon currently have a presence in China.
