Cryptocurrency author and entrepreneur Dr. John Clippinger joins prestigious Board of Advisors to explore identity and reputation

Seattle, Washington – December 14, 2017 – Atonomi, the blockchain-based arm of leading IoT security provider CENTRI Technology, has today announced a research partnership with Dr. John H. Clippinger, a Research Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab and a co-founder of the Token Commons Foundation, to empower people to have complete ownership of their own data.

Dr. Clippinger will also join Atonomi’s Board of Advisors to provide counsel on the Atonomi Network, a crypto-security protocol that will enable advanced trust and identity validation for IoT devices for the first time.

Atonomi CEO Vaughan Emery said, “Our research with Dr. Clippinger will thoroughly explore the benefits of blockchain technology in enabling trusted identity and device reputation through consensus and decentralization, facilitating the next generation of the internet. The benefits of putting users in control of their data are boundless, and Dr. Clippinger shares Atonomi’s vision to create the right technology that will allow people to establish their own identity, rather than relying on institutional power or an external entity. This research will also set the path for future collaborations between Dr. Clippinger and Atonomi to further explore the impacts of an immutable blockchain-based ledger of things.”

Dr. Clippinger joins a board of prominent blockchain thought leaders and innovators, including core team members Andrii Zamovsky, founder of Ambisafe; and David Fragale, former Blockchain Lead at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and advisors Dr. Ulf Lindqvist, Program Director at SRI International; Dr. David Kravitz, Vice President, Crypto Systems Research at DarkMatter; David Jevans, CEO of CipherTrace; and Rob May, Co-Founder and CEO of Talla.

Dr. John Clippinger said, “I’m delighted to join such a high-profile project, and I believe our collaborative work will push the boundaries on how people run and govern themselves and their personal data. CENTRI Technology is a celebrated leader in providing IoT data security solutions, and Atonomi’s team of forward-thinking innovators has a compelling goal to bring complete trust to the IoT that aligns perfectly with my research focus at the Media Lab and previously, at the Law Lab at the Harvard Law School Berkman Klein Center. My research on blockchain technology and a new social ordering can also inform Atonomi’s aim to build a protocol that will allow users to self-assert their identity and help IoT reach its full potential. ”

Dr. Clippinger’s research at the MIT Media Lab and Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center focused on developing trust frameworks for protecting and sharing personal information. He is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Institutional Innovation & Data Driven Design (ID3), which is developing an open governance platform to support an ecosystem for data-driven services, infrastructures, and enterprises.

Vaughan Emery said, “The Atonomi Network has an extremely ambitious goal of reimagining the future of identity and trust for the IoT. With Dr. Clippinger’s wide-breadth of knowledge on self-sovereign identity and trust frameworks, Atonomi is a step closer to achieving its vision. Together with our highly-skilled team of experts, we will expand on CENTRI Technology’s track record of cybersecurity excellence to build a next-generation infrastructure. I look forward to unveiling the Atonomi Network which will offer an unprecedented level of trust through immutable identity and reputation for all IoT devices.”
