Mobile payment solution provider Monitise has teamed up with a Hong Kong ATM network operator Jetco to offer mobile top up in the local market.

“This partnership is an exciting step towards bringing mobile payments and shopping to Hong Kong, by connecting people with their existing bank accounts or cards, anytime, anywhere, via their mobile.” according to Monitise Group Chief Executive Alastair Lukies.

He added: “JETCO’s experience will add enormously to Monitise as we seek to lead the world in mobile banking and payments capabilities. We’ll also soon be announcing more updates regarding new partnerships and services in the mobile network operator space in Hong Kong.”

The press release does not disclose any details about the new service. It does appear, however, that at first consumers will be allowed to top up their prepaid mobile phones at Jetco’s ATMs and then add additional features and services later. Hong Kong is a highly developed market for mobile phones. And mobile payments could become popular among the consumers.
