Self-Checkout Systems Aim To Score Big With Sports Fans

Paying big bucks for a seat at a pro sports venue and not wanting to stand in long lines at concession stands? Then go to a Denver Broncos or Sacramento Kings game. And maybe others will soon follow as the cashierless, self-checkout trend continues.

What started with Amazon Go has been expanding to other stores or areas that provide autonomous or mobile app self-checkout. Sports stadiums are known for long lines especially at halftime or between innings. So developers like Zippin are introducing the self-checkout to the sports world, albeit on a very limited basis right now. Expect this trend to continue, and sports fans can spend more time watching the action and less time waiting for a beer.

See more on this topic as excerpted from the following articles below:

From an a Business Insider article:

  • A new Amazon Go-style checkout-free store is opening at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, which is home to the NBA’s Sacramento Kings.
  • The store is powered by Zippin, which recently opened its first cashier-less store in San Francisco.
  • “When Zippin launches in Golden 1 Center this Fall, Sacramento Kings fans will be able to walk in, grab a beer, and walk out in under 30 seconds,” said Zippin CEO Krishna Motukuri.

From a Forbes article:

Just last week I looked at how artificial intelligence (AI) is impacting fantasy football players with their NFL fantasy teams. The new technologies certainly have many adaptations, extending beyond leisure activities, which include ways to improve the fan’s experience at the games. With this in mind, the Denver Broncos of the NFL announced late last week that it will introduce, in conjunction with its food and beverage partner Aramark, high-tech Mashgin AI self-checkout units in its stadium operations.

The touch screens will allow fans to scan items placed on the Mashgin units.  By providing an immediate list of items and prices that can be paid for quickly and efficiently, fans will spend less time getting food and more time in their seats watching the Broncos on the field.
