Total and BKM Express Launch Turkish Mobile Payment System for In-Car Payments

Leading oil and gas company Total has announced a deal with cardpayment system operator BKM that will allow customers to pay for their petrolwithout ever having leave their car.

To use the service, customers need to have the BKM Expressmobile wallet and download the Total Mobile Payment app. At which point,customers will need to enter their vehicle license plate so it can berecognized by the participating station. If the customer wants to complete thetransaction the Total app will redirect them to the BKM Express platform inorder to complete the transaction using one of their stored bank or creditcards.

Commenting on the deal, Soner Canko, CEO of BKM said, “TheBKM Express digital wallet that we introduced two years ago continues itsstrong growth. We currently have over 650 merchants and some 350,000 users, andwe work with 16 banks to make card users’ shopping easier. With the BKM Expressmobile app, we already gave our users the opportunity to send money at any timeof the day.With the launch of the mobile payment app in collaboration withTotal; we have also started face-to-face transactions that are very importantto us. We will continue to offer BKM Express users similar solutions in thenear future with our partners in other consumer facing industries.”

In order to have a successful mobile wallet one of the keycomponents is to have a wide acceptance landscape. By announcing the new dealwith Total, BKM (which is co-owned by the Turkish banks) is ensuring that itsnational mobile wallet is attractive to consumers and can be used in moreeveryday scenarios.
