Widespread contactless acceptance and EMV may actually come to the U.S. Visa has announced its push for smartcard adoption in the U.S. with its plan “to accelerate chip migration and adoption of mobile payments.” That means EMV card issuance as well as new payment terminals that can accept both a contact EMV and a contactless EMV transaction.
That also means mobile payments from smartphones with NFC will have more acceptance points. This is all going to take years, but it’s a move that’s long been the right one to take. And now it’s finally been taken.
