Schools, corporations, and even some government institutions have all embraced prepaid cards as a way to remove the need for carrying cash. To make life simple for campus residents, they often include security functions such as identification and security devices. The Windward school, a college-prep school has brought this concept to the high school level by launching its OneCard that can serve as an ID and payment card. It also taps into the trend of using prepaid cards to reach students by allowing parents and other family members to reload the cards online. The launch of this card shows how the prepaid card can simplify the lives of people in any environment where there is a defined group of merchants and ancillary needs like identification that can be combined on a single card.

Windward School and CardSmith LLC announced today the launch of a new, multifunction ID Card – the Windward OneCard – for the School’s students, parents, staff and other stakeholders. The enhanced ID card features a pre-paid spending account students can use to make purchases at the student store, all food service locations, and school events. Parents and students can access accounts 24/7 from a dedicated on-line account center to view transactions, add value, establish automatic allowances, and more. Windward deployed touch screen POS terminals in all dining locations.

Locations hosting events now have the option to utilize wired or wireless IP terminals.
