Reports of sophisticated skimmers in Pittsburg hit the front page of this Allegheny town.  The article points to gas stations as the weak link to EMV because of the 2020 implementation for this vertical market.

Today’s read comes from the Stamford Advocate, announcing that Care Credit is expanding its offerings to cover health spas, complementing the firm’s acceptance for elective health and beauty procedures.

  • Credit-card skimmers like the one found at a GetGo gas pump in Ross this week are increasingly sophisticated, and might not always be revealed by a quick inspection or broken seal, security experts say.

Well, this is not LA or NYC.  The workings of small town USA are in motion…

  • Brian Kohlhepp of the Ross Police Department said he had no photos of the device that he could share, because it had been logged as evidence and locked up. Police had not found any additional skimmer devices in the township as of Tuesday, but there have been others discovered around the region over the last few months, he said.

The takeaway is that nowhere (and nothing) is sacred to fraudsters.  Not even small town USA.
